UCT Trust Privacy Statement
The UCT Trust, a UK-registered charity, is a separate legal entity from the University of Cape Town (UCT). Its purpose is the advancement of education and research at UCT, and for that purpose it aims to spread knowledge of UCT’s activities and achievements, to maintain contact with UCT alumni and supporters, and to foster their engagement with UCT. The Trust raises funds for scholarships and bursaries as well as for UCT projects and campaigns. The Trust seeks to help UCT build strong and meaningful lifelong relationships with its alumni, donors and supporters. The Trust carries out research better to understand alumni, donors’ and supporters’ relationship with UCT and to help identify potential donors to the University.
To achieve these purposes, the Trust has regular access to the UCT database, which stores information regarding UCT alumni and supporters, such as degree and student residence details, bursaries and awards, activities and interests, and subsequent careers. The Trust also collects information from alumni and supporters with whom it comes into contact, and information about donors and potential donors. This information includes updated postal and email addresses and details of donations and of events attended.
Our friends and supporters are of central concern to us, and so is the privacy and security of their personal data. All such personal data is kept secure and protected from unauthorised access. It is never given to third parties other than UCT itself and (so far as may be necessary for Gift Aid and financial accounting) HM Revenue and Customs and the Trust’s auditors, or occasionally for the printing of appeal letters, and it will never under any circumstances be transferred or sold for a commercial purpose.
