UCT needs support from alumni around the world to help it rebuild and recover.

We are therefore asking alumni and friends in the UK to consider making a contribution to the UCT Fire Emergency Fund which will assist in rebuilding campus after the fire, which struck in April this year.

Your gift will greatly assist with the needs that have arisen as a result of the devastating fire. In the short term the focus has been on expanding UCT’s team of counsellors to assist with the psychosocial support that students may require, along with fresh supplies of PPE in the form of masks and hand sanitiser for students and staff working with them, to protect against COVID outbreaks. The fund has also helped to provide alternative accommodation for students from the damaged residences, along with funding of a tailored wellness programme to all relocated students to address their emotional and physical needs. In the long term, the Fund is now focussed on a restoration and rebuilding plan to address the damage to campus buildings – most particularly the Jagger Reading Room and the Biological Sciences building.  Exciting plans are afoot in this regard and we look forward to sharing them with our alumni supporters in due course.
