Professor Ntobeko Ntusi

Ntobeko Ntusi has served as a Trustee on the Board since 2019. He is a cardiologist and Professor of Medicine appointed as Chair and Head of the Department of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences at UCT and at Groote Schuur Hospital. He obtained a BSc (Hons) degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology from Haverford College in the USA, and an MBChB degree in Medicine and Surgery at UCT, before completing a four-year Fellowship of the College of Physicians  through the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa at Groote Schuur Hospital. He subsequently completed clinical training in Cardiology at UCT under the auspices of the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa. He obtained a DPhil in Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Oxford, and completed his MD in Cardiology at UCT.

Ntobeko served his internship and later worked as a community service medical officer and senior house officer at Frere Hospital in East London, and has also worked at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford as an Honorary Cardiology Specialist Registrar. He is a Principal Investigator based at Hatter Institute for Cardiovascular Medicine in Africa, the Cape Heart Institute, the Cape Universities Body Imaging Centre and a Collaborating Investigator at the Wellcome Centre for Infectious Diseases Research in Africa.

Ntobeko has published more than 180 peer-reviewed articles in international scientific journals. He has over 160 published conference proceedings and has written 15 book chapters. Ntobeko has significant clinical experience and has been involved in clinical innovation at Groote Schuur Hospital. He has garnered considerable recognition as an academic, including numerous international prizes and awards, and has fellowships by election from the Royal College of Physicians and the Royal Society of South Africa.
