The Baxter Theatre needs your help!

You are cordially invited to join a live-streaming of a special fundraising event to celebrate the re-opening of Cape Town’s iconic Baxter Theatre on 3rd November 2020.

During the COVID-19 lockdown, The Baxter had to close its doors, losing significant revenue for the theatre, artists and staff. In November, internationally renowned artists Gregory Maqoma and Zolano Mahola will share The Baxter stage in a specially commissioned and unique season to celebrate the reopening of the theatre, and the performance on 3rd November will serve as a fundraiser aimed at helping to recover the loss of income The Baxter has suffered over the past six months.

This special gala performance will be hosted by the Vice-Chancellor, with comedian and UCT alumnus Marc Lottering as the master of ceremonies, and will be live-streamed to alumni and friends around the world. The live-streamed ticket price will be £30 per person, but we would urge you to consider making a donation, of say £20 on top of the ticket price, to help ensure the Baxter Theatre’s survival. If you are a UK taxpayer, this additional sum is tax deductible and eligible for Gift Aid.

Please note that a donation of £500 will entitle you to “name-a-seat” in the Baxter Theatre – for yourself, a family member, or perhaps in memory of a loved one. If you would like to take up this opportunity, please email Angela Edwards at for more details.
